Literal Bible vs Contextual Bible
Which is more important? The pastor’s words of hate and non acceptance on stage or on TV based on a single verse? Or what the WHOLE bible says and the times that it was written in?
People tend to have a 5th grade knowledge of Christianity. They go to church on sunday, and receive the “word of god.” But what many fail to do, atheists included, is to TEST the words of the pastor or preacher providing them. This leads to the hate, and non acceptance of people.
So the question is, WHAT STANDS? The words of a pastor “speaking in the name of god?” ie LITERAL readings, that are not in the context of the whole bible and it’s times. OR the contextual bible which when taken with it’s time and the people writing it “through god” may read entirely different.
ex. Exodus 21:10 If he take him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish.
Taken literal this sounds like “If he marries then divorces, and remarries, his previous wife retains her position as a wife”
UM………..we all know that this isn’t how things work today. If I divorced after 25 years of monogamous marriage, and found a better woman, I would be the first to say “see ya!”
So what do you people think?
